2023 Northern Virginia Fireworks Guide

If you're looking for where to catch some fireworks this 4th of July, look no further! Here are some of our favorite spots to see firework displays around Northern Virginia. We hope you and your families have a fun, safe holiday!

  • A Capital Fourth - America's National Independence Day Celebration complete with a concert and fireworks on the National Mall. Performances include The National Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, Maddie & Tae, Chip Esten, Babyface, The Muppets & more! The show will be broadcast on PBS; if you want to go in person, make sure to get there early! More information is available on their website.

  • City of Fairfax's Independence Day Celebration - The celebration begins early in Fairfax! Enjoy fireworks and performances from 6:30-10:30pm on July 2nd and their annual Independence Day parade from 10am-12pm on July 4th. There will be food trucks and shuttles available at both events.   • Mount Vernon, An American Celebration - Celebrate the 4th at the home of our first POTUS. During this patriotic event you can meet George Washington, watch made-for-daytime fireworks, observe a Naturalization Ceremony and more. Event is from 9am-5pm on the 4th. A grounds pass is required for entry. The cost is free for members and $13-26 for non-members. More information and tickets are available on their website,

  • 4th of July Hometown Celebration in Great Falls - July 4th is packed-full with fun in Great Falls. Start the morning with a parade, food trucks and more from 8-12:30pm. Then, that evening come back early for the family-friendly festivities! Gates open at 6pm for the cornhole tournament, inflatable fun, and food trucks. The fireworks start once it's dark - about 9pm.   • USA/Alexandria Birthday Celebration - If you’re busy on the 4th or just not done celebrating yet, you’re in luck! Alexandria celebrates its 274th birthday and the USA’s 247th birthday on Saturday, July 8th with a grand finale fireworks display at 9:30 p.m at Oronoco Bay Park. Enjoy the big birthday experience including cupcakes, local vendors and live music. The event is free to attend and includes a performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra.   • McLean Independence Day Fireworks Show - Saturday July 1st from 6:30-10:30pm at Langley High School. Fireworks begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. and last about 22 minutes; activities include gourmet food trucks, music, giveaways and more.
