Every year from Thanksgiving until just after New Year’s Day, you can experience the Bull Run Festival of Lights, 2.5 miles illuminated by holiday light displays. Drive the festival route from the comfort of your car; turn off your headlights and just follow the magical glow. The 2020 Festival of Lights is the season’s best, brightest and socially distant activity to enjoy with your family and friends! We’ve added three additional weeks to this year’s show, as well as online ticketing to provide minimal contact. Purchase tickets online, here. Tickets start at $25 per car.
Ice and Lights – The Winter Village at Cameron Run
Glide across the ice at Ice & Lights, The Winter Village at Cameron Run in Alexandria, Virginia. The waterpark will be transformed mid-November through early January into a winter wonderland with an ice rink, beautifully lit photo ops, music and more. Grab a slice of pizza, roast a marshmallow over the fire pits, and enjoy the winter village. The village closes but the ice rink is open weekend days January 9 – February 28. Tickets for entry and ice skating must be purchased online, here. Entry starts at $9, ice skating starts at $12.
Holiday Lights on the Farm
New this year – Brighten your season with a driving tour of Holiday Lights on the Farm at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon. Tour the park in the safety and warmth of your vehicle on a one-mile route to see the farm animals, wooded wonders, and luminous lights decorating the pastures and historic buildings. Maximum vehicle size 15 passenger. Online registration required, here. Entry is $20 per car.
U.S. Botanical Garden
The US Botanic Garden will have expanded online programming and limited holiday decorations this year. Festive adornments, winterberries, lights, and greenery will be placed in the Terrace Gardens and Bartholdi Park from Nov. 23, 2020, through Jan. 10, 2021. There will not be a train display this year, and the Conservatory and gated outdoor gardens remain closed at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can see their outdoor holiday decorations anytime during the dates above. Their free annual holiday concert will be streamed online, you can find dates and more information here.
Winter Lights Festival
The City’s Winter Lights Festival is getting ready to welcome visitors for its 25th spectacular season. The wondrous display of lights at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD will be open nightly November 27 through December 31. The festival will be closed on December 25. The 3.5 mile drive through the enchanted setting of Seneca Creek State Park takes you past more than 450 illuminated displays and beautifully lit trees that light up the night. Tickets must be purchased online, here. Tickets start at $12 per car, up to $25 per car.
